The ending of fights was declared by either tapping out or throwing the towel.

The UFC 2 changes were quite a shocker. The cages were made to have higher bars and lesser floor padding, thereby putting more danger for the fighters. Time limits on the rounds were dismissed. The ban on strikes on the groin was removed though the grabbing of genitals was still illegal.

The power to the referee to stop a fight when a fighter cannot save himself was given through the UFC 3. But it was only through the UFC 5 that time limit of 30 minutes to wrap up the fight was introduced. The first super fight was also witnessed during this amendment. UFC 6 gave the authority to the referee to stop the fight in a deadly deadlock and restart the fight by sending the fighters to extreme corners of the ring.

With UFC 12 the division of heavy weight and lightweight were introduced. Mixed Martial Arts or MMA Norwich is a sport that combines different forms of fighting into one single sport and allows a fighter to try every possible technique that he feels comfortable and apt to use. However he can use them subject to a few rules, which I’d explain in the preceding paragraphs. MMA Norwich is a full body contact combat sport and therefore the extent of injury can be serious.

Earlier when this sport was incepted the techniques used by the fighters were not fierce but now due to globalization the techniques have evolved and the risk of fatal injuries has also increased. Therefore the rules associated with Pankration (Greco-Roman form ofMMA) evolved with every new style such as Vale tudo, Japanese Wrestling and UFC. The sport became fiercer and more aggressive over the years and therefore rules were required to remove the lawlessness and barbarism if the sport. Hence on 30th July 2009 finally the unified rules of MMA Norwich were accepted.

The Mixed Martial Arts or MMA Norwich rules divide the fighters according to the weights. This was done to make the fight fair since it’s easier for a heavy weight fighter to crush a lightweight fighter. The nine weight classes are flyweight (up to 56.7 kg), bantamweight (up to 61.2 kg), featherweight (up to 65.8 kg), lightweight (up to 70.3 kg), welterweight (up to 77.1 kg) middle weight (up to 83.9 kg), light heavy weight (up to 93.0 kg), heavy weight (up to 120.2kg) and the last one is super heavy weight, which has no upper limit for weight.

To protect the fighters from cuts and bruises on their hands they were made to wear gloves with open ends at the finger side. The amateur fighters are made to wear heavy gloves i.e. of around 6 oz while the professional fighters can wear 4 oz gloves. Gloves ensure safety to hands and wrists. They were first introduced in Shooto, the Japanese form ofMMA Norwich.

In order to save time and energy of the fighters, the fighting rounds were timed in MMA Norwich. A concept of three rounds was introduced with the duration of each round as 5 minutes. The referee could stand up both the fighters if they are wasting time and not advancing to fight or resting on the ground.

Victory can also be given by judges’ result at the end of the three fight rounds. I don’t really know much about it except that it is from the English mainland and can be seen to have influence from the Indian style wrestling called ‘kushti’ and Japanese style shoot wrestling. Many fighters have used it to get agile, flexible and learn the fatal deadlock techniques.

The other techniques used in the MMA Norwich training are those of Judo and Karate. In judo the art of ground grappling or ne-waza and the art of standing grappling or tachi-waza is used prominently in mixed martial arts. It provides the fighter the enormous strength and required precision for the deadlock to happen so that the opponent taps out. Karate being the father for kick boxing provides strength to the fighters legs and adds up better workability and mobility to the fighter’s style of fighting.

It is an effective technique striking while standing up and when the fight hasn’t touched ground. This technique is usually well learnt through disciplines of Muay Thai, Judo, Boxing and Thai Boxing. It teaches them not give into submission while wrestling and maintain their standing position to avoid takedown.

This debate is a forever continuing circle and I have come to shed some light to it. As Brazilian jiu jitsu is a rapidly growing sport – both in competition and fan base, many newcomers that come to our BJJ class at our MMA Gym in Norwich,Norfolk, and professionals for that matter, might be getting the wrong idea about this whole gi vs no gi discussion. At ou rMMA Gym in Norwich believe the debate is quite a touchy subject that needs to be focused on and resolved as quickly as possible.

Ever since the no gi competitions have come around, this debate has existed and with good reason too. The no gi rule sort of breaks the traditional aspect of BJJ martial arts. The gi was worn by Japanese and Asian workers for centuries and, if anybody knows anything about history, martial arts was designed by the working class to help defend themselves against foreign invaders. This form of wear is essentially casual clothes for the culture. In fact, samurai would train heavily in their undergarments which closely resembled a gi. At our MMA gym in norwich, we like the Gi.


The gi does have some modifications depending on what martial art you are in. We wear the gi at our MMA Gym in Norwich For example, the jiu-jitsu gi is a lot heavier in weight and can not tear easily compared to the karate gi. There are many players that rely extensively on the gi and this is their major downfall, especially during games that do not require the use of a gi. Is The UFC The Same As MMA Norwich?

The UFC stands for Ultimate Fighting Championship. It is the largest promotional organization for mixed martial a​rts (The Same As Our MMA Norwich Classes) competition worldwide. The UFC promotes events that include world class top ranking fighters all over the world and is broken into seven weight divisions.

In 1993 the UFC held its first event in Denver, Colorado. The initial fights promoted by the UFC included various fighting styles, such as boxing, karate, Muay Thai and many more, giving birth to our MMA Norwich school The goal of the event was to include the various martial arts styles and find which one was the most effective fighting style and put them together in the end with no holds barred combat.MMA Norwich

As the organization underwent critique from outside sources, they adopted strict fighting policies. The UFC follows the rules set by the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA Norwich) now. Initially there were no weight divisions set, because the theory was that regardless of size the best fighting style would prevail.

After a great deal of political and public concern the UFC created seven weight divisions. The saga also ended with the UFC requiring gloves be worn. Fish-hooking and head shots to an opponent when they were down were made illegal during matches.

The UFC underwent a slow recovery after some negative publicity, however after adding restrictions and implementing new rules the popularity of the MMA increased. To help the recovery of the UFC it was decided that a reality show should be created, called The Ultimate Fighter. This showed the journey of upcoming stars and was a hit for the UFC. Season after season the show grew a larger audience. They also aired an hour show weekly called UFC Unleashed, which was a quick success.

The UFC has faced a journey full of up’s and down’s to become the success story they are today.
